Archaeological Method and Theory

This microcourse introduces you to the basic methods and theories that archaeologists use to design, implement, and analyze the results of archaeological research. Archaeology uses many basic data collection, organization, and analysis techniques, so the skills learned here are transferable to professional activities outside of archaeology. By completing this course you will be able to identify the essential steps of archaeological research and explain why different techniques are used at different times. Consequently, you will be prepared to volunteer in archaeological research under the supervision of a professional archaeologist, if you wish to do so.
